Twitter’s Vine has announced an upgrade - Music - which lets users make and find soundtracks on the short video clips
Today, Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) announced an upgrade to its Vine service by adding Music to it, according to the latter’s blog post. Vine, the video sharing application service, is planning to increase focus on music by introducing new features that enable users to generate smooth-running audio loops for the short video clips they upload. This would make identifying songs a lot easier for other people.
Founded in June 2012, Vine is a video sharing service, using which users can upload and view six second long video clips on a loop for an indefinite amount of time. Right before its official launch, the micro-blogging social network Twitter took over in October 2012.The app can be used to search for video clips posted by other users of Twitter and Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), which are grouped together according to the content’s theme, popularity, and trending priority. Now, Vine is perhaps planning to grow its impact on the social media music space by adding tools to help users add and search tracks easily.
The social media service has rolled out two new features, Snap to Beat and Featured Tracks. The Snap to Beat feature helps users create and add perfectly looped audio content to Vine’s short video clips, like a mini soundtrack. The Featured Tracks option allows users to find the song title and details of the artists in the clips posted by others.
The new tools unveiled today will significantly increase user interaction with Vine as well as Twitter. To some, the idea of watching a six second video on an endless loop could be pointless, but to many, especially the young generation, sharing and watching vines is very amusing and entertaining. While the music discovery feature is available on both mobile operating systems, Android by Google Inc (NASDAQ:GOOG) and iOS by Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), the creation and editing tools are, at least for now, exclusively available on iOS.
Apple users are now able to use the Snap to Beat tool to figure out how much exactly of a specific song should be used to create a smooth and seamless looping soundtrack for the short video clips. The feature to edit the video content allows the user to meticulously trim the clip to fit and be properly synchronized with the looping audio. Users will also be able utilize edit tools to pick particular parts of a song or sound clips and add them to specific parts of the video clip.
The new Music features are a great upgrade. The enhancement will once again spark interest in vine-lovers to create short video clips and post them on social networks. In recent years, the vine culture has grown exponentially with people engaging in it even today. Hundreds of millions of views come in from vine compilation videos on YouTube. Vine creators have gained popularity on social media platforms, while making a reasonable amount of money for attracting high-volume views.
It is highly likely that Twitter, via Vine, is planning to establish its platform as a music sharing and music discovery product. Snap to Beat allows users to add part of a catchy song without violating any copyrights, while Featured Track provides information about the soundtrack in a Vine, eliminating the need for third-party apps, such as Shazam.
In 2014, the Vine service was evidently a tool for gathering news as it was widely used to share video clips on the Ferguson protests. It also partnered up with Tropfest, the world’s biggest short film festival, to help in the six-second video competition. Now, as Vine enhances, it can definitely lure more users in and increase usage duration overall. As engagement grows, more advertisement-based revenues will come pouring in.
