Apple declares some products as obsolete in the run up to the iPhone launch event on September 9
Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), as per 9to5Mac report, will discontinue repair support for some of its products as it marks the items as “obsolete” ahead of its September 9 event.
The company will no longer offer support for the Apple TV, LED Cinema Display (24-inch), Apple Cinema Display (30-inch DVI Early 2007), the second and third generation iPod touch, as well as the third and fifth generation iPod nano and iPod Classic, beginning September 8, 2015 — just a day before Apple showcases new products at its highly anticipated launch event scheduled for September 9.
Apple products typically get stamped with “obsolete status” after 5-7 years have lapsed since the company stopped manufacturing the products. The obsolete products will, however, be marked as “Vintage” in California and Turkey, where the company will be required by law to continue offering support.
Apple customers might not react positively to the company's announcement, especially since there are many who still use products developed in Steve Job's era. The negativity surrounding the announcement, however, is expected to be limited, given that the company will be launching its next-generation variants, the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, the very next day. Apple is also anticipated to announce an upgrade to its Apple TV that day.
Tech gurus expect the company to face some challenges regarding its new releases, given that the Force Touch technology is being applied to iPhones for the first time. The company, as per experts, may have tested prototypes, but there is expectation that some problems may have remained. These problems will need to be tackled as soon as possible, to keep customers happy.
Apple also faces the monumental task of ensuring that its customer service remains of top quality. Asreported by Bidness Etc earlier, Apple’s customer service levels dropped in the second quarter of 2015. Apple, nonetheless, remains a company recognized the world over for its after-sales services.
