Bungie’s Destiny Overhauls Weekly Nightfall Missions

The nightfall missions are getting major changes in the upcoming DLC

Activision Blizzard Inc.’s (NASDAQ:ATVI) Destiny’s developer, Bungie has recently announced that they are making major changes to the weekly nightfall missions every Destiny player is familiar with.

In the recent weekly update, Luke Smith, the creative director for the upcoming DLC, The Taken King, said that they are making three major changes to the way the weekly Nightfall missions work in Year One.

The first change will come after the launch of The Taken King. There is going to be a Level 40 requirement that players have to meet in order to get into Nightfall and reap its rewards. We already know that Destiny: The Taken King, is moving from a Light based leveling system, to a more traditional RPG style one, and this is one of the most welcomed changes to the game, as it takes out most of the grinding aspect.

The second big change to the Nightfall mission is the removal of the Kick to Orbit penalty, when the whole fire-team gets wiped. Smith said the Kick to Orbit penalty caused players to complete the Nightfalls in a super safe manner rather than “running through the mission while being a Killing machine.” Furthermore, they will also remove the Weekly Heroic Strike. This basically means the weekly heroic strike is now called the Nightfall Strike, minus the Kick to Orbit penalty. Also, in place of the weekly heroic strike, we now have the Vanguard heroic strike playlist, which is similar to the old strike playlists, with bonus legendary marks up for grabs.

Bungie also said that they are “shelving” the Nightfall buff for now, as players want to complete the Nightfall as early in the week as possible, and are going to add the buff again when “it is closer to its original intent”. Bungie further added that they have adjusted XP and reputation sources accordingly, in order to account for the removal of the buff. They have also added a 30 second death penalty to the Nightfall.

The Taken King will be available for purchase on September 15 for Sony Corp.’s (NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Corporation’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One and Xbox 360.
