Assassin’s Creed’s film adaptation will impact games and comics according to Head of Content, Azaizia Aymar
Ubisoft Entertainment SA’s (ADR) (OTCMKTS:UBSFY) Assassin’s Creed series will finally be going on the big screen with a motion picture adaptation releasing late next year. It had been reported previously that Michael Fassbender of ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and ’12 Years a Slave’ fame is cast in the lead role of Callum Lynch and his 15th century Spanish Assassin ancestor Aguilar. Lynch will be a new character but will be reliving genetic memories of his Assassin ancestor just like the previous in-game protagonists, Desmond Miles and Daniel Cross.
According to Gamespot, Head of Content of Assassin’s Creed, Azaizia Aymar went on the official Ubisoft Twitter handle and took on questions posed by fans about the movie. He stated that Callum Lynch will not be similar to Desmond Miles and others who have been featured in past games. Abstergo will most definitely be part of the movie as has been in the games.
The most interesting revelation was that the movie would impact the games and comics universe. This means that games released around the movie will be somehow tied to it. The movie will tell a new story but would not stray far from the established universe from the games. Aymar also stated that the plan to “succeed is by focusing on the story first!”
He hinted at the return of “familiar faces” in the movie so could we see Altair or Ezio or even Arno Dorian? We also assume that the ancestral memories will be relived via the Animus. The movie will be a new story in the universe but not based on previous titles. Modern-day elements will play a major part in the story.
Another interesting point is that the movie’s release date of December 21, 2016 coincides with the games’ storyline. It is also the same day that Desmond Miles saves the world and dies a hero, so Aymar hopes that “it’s not a bad omen!”
We are definitely excited about the big screen adaptation of the AC franchise. It is also not the first Ubisoft property to be transalated into a movie. ‘Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time’ was released a few years back and was a financial success. Hopefully, Assassin’s Creed can do the same or even better next year.
