Sony PS4 is already the bestselling console this generation and the Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 beta has broken records
According to Activision Blizzard (NASDAQ:ATVI), the Call of Duty beta on the Sony Corp (ADR)(NYSE:SNE) PlayStation 4 was a huge success. Gamespot reported that, the publisher revealed that the beta was played by “millions” of gamers and was the “biggest” beta on PlayStation 4. The beta period was scheduled between August 19 and 24 on Sony’s bestselling console and would eventually move to Microsoft Corp's (NASDAQ:MSFT) Xbox One and the PC.
The idea behind the record-breaking beta was to give developer Treyarch Studios “critical feedback and technical data” and would definitely go a long way in improving the final game. Activation and PlayStation both have estimated that no other beta has logged in more hours, downloads and sessions.
A recent press release from Activision quoted Sony exec Adam Boyes stating, “Played by millions of PlayStation fans around the world, the response to the beta was massive and shows the strength when bringing together the best-selling console franchise with the best-selling game console. Signaling an impressive start of a new era for PlayStation and this famed franchise, there was no better way to welcome Call of Duty to its new home on PlayStation 4.”
That being said, both COD: Black Ops 3 and the PS4 are two of a kind. What we mean is that both are bestselling in their own way. The PS4 has dominated the gaming landscape for almost two years and seem unbeatable now. Similarly, COD: Black Ops 3 is looking to the biggest in the shooter genre later this year. Last year’s COD: Advanced Warfare was a huge success thanks to a stellar single player campaign starring Kevin Spacey as the primary antagonist and improved multiplayer. We can expect even better when the future-bestselling game launches on today’s biggest selling console in November.
