Here’s Why Apple Inc. Won’t Be Launching iPhone 6c Next Month

Bidness Etc takes a look at why Apple has reportedly decided against launching its budget iPhone at its upcoming September 9 event

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) finally confirmed its rumored September 9 media event yesterday. The company is widely believed to uncover its much-anticipated iPhone 6s and 6s Plus at the event. Recent reports, however, indicate that the rumored “iPhone 6c” will not make an appearance at the event. Sources have told MacRumors that the company has decided to delay the launch of its smaller and cheaper variant of the iPhone. We at Bidness Etc take a look at why the company has decided to do so.

We were greeted with the first budget iPhone nearly two years ago, wheniPhone 5c was launched. The device incorporated a plastic body rather than a metal frame, and was available in a wide array of bright colors. However, it failed to attract many users, probably because it was priced higher than flagships from other smartphone manufacturers, and did not carry the premium feel of an iPhone.

The device was introduced to provide an alternative for those not willing to shell out over $600 for the high-end iPhone. The device ran on similar end specs as its premium cousins, which the company thought was enough reason to draw consumers toward it. However, it failed to attract enough consumer attention. Apple is rumored to discontinue the production of iPhone 5c after iPhone 6s and 6s Plus are released.

The rumor gave way to further speculation that Apple might gear up to launch a successor to iPhone 5c next month. However, it is believed that the device will not make an entrance before the end of 2015. If Apple introduces the cheaper iPhone 6c in the upcoming weeks, then it would directly affect the potential sales of iPhone 6s. The company would want to rake in as much revenue as possible via its iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, before it introduces a cheaper model.

Apple’s iPhones have enjoyed tremendous success in the industry. The company should only launch the iPhone 6c once it sees the sales of its flagships reach a standstill, which is not likely before the end of the year. If a cheaper iPhone is introduced around Christmas, when the company is also expected to unveil its iPad Pro, it would be a smart decision that could maximize revenue. This sounds similar to the strategy the company has built its unparalleled reputation on.
