Nexus 5, Nexus 6, and Nexus 9 With Android 5.2 M Update – Top Improvements and Fixes

A few months ago, the big search engine company has announced the Android M OS. They’ve done this announcement during the Google I/O 2015 and soon after that, the developer preview was available for download for the Nexus devices we’ve mentioned above.

Google said that they will release monthly updates for the developer preview builds and as soon as the testing period is over, the Android 5.2 M update for Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will be released for the public.

Unfortunately, Google didn’t specify a release date of the upcoming Android 5.2 M and based on Android’s previous launches, it’s pretty easy to estimate that the upcoming operating system will be released sometime in October-November 2015.

Rumors say that along with the Android 5.2 M OS, Google is going to release two new Nexus smart phones. One of them will be manufactured by Huawei, while the other one will be built by LG (the company that made the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 for Google).

If rumors prove to be right, the upcoming Nexus device manufactured by Huawei will feature a 5.7inch Quad HD screen, a Snapdragon 810 or 810 SoC, 4GB of RAM, USB Type-C, and fingerprint scanner. The one that will be manufactured by LG will have a smaller display of only 5.2inches and it will feature a Snapdragon 620 chipset, 4GB of RAM, USB Type-C and a fingerprint scanner.

Until now, Google has named its Android versions after desserts, in alphabetical order. With other words, after Lollipop, this year’s Android name will start with “M”. It’s not sure yet what name the new Android OS will have, but rumors say that it can be one of the followings: Muffin, Milkshake, M&M or Marshmallow.

When it comes to the version number of the Android M, it seems that it will be 5.2, not 6.0 as everyone expected. This is because the update is not a major one like the one from KitKat to Lollipop, so using the 6.0 version for Android M will not make any sense.

You can now download the Android M preview build for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 from the internet, but keep in mind that you will most likely find a lot of bugs and errors, as the developers are still working on it.

The Android 5.2 M update for the Nexus 5, Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 will also feature the automatic app data back and restore feature. This feature has been requested by the Android users for quite a while and it seems that the developers have finally brought it.

With other words, the system will backup your app data to the Google Drive every 24 hours, but keep in mind that the backup is limited to 25MB. This way, you will be able to restore it when you buy a new device, which is pretty awesome.
